We're having not one, but THREE Launch Parties for the Janome Horizon Machine. It's official unveiling nationwide will be Saturday May 1st. Til then it's under wraps and pretty secret stuff!

What we can tell you is that we'll have three different times on May 1st for the Launch Parties: 10am / 1pm/ and 3pm. We'll have refreshments, a door prize, a free Janome gift for you, AND special pricing for that day only if you attend. Better yet - it's the very first day of our 32nd Anniversary Celebration! Each event will last about 45 minutes. We'll show you the features and give it a test run too! Space is limited - call 207-474-9628 to reserve your spot!

Kala headed down to Boston last week to be certified for dealer training on the Horizon Machine. This day-long and hands-on seminar gave her an opportunity to put it through it's paces. All week she's been working on it - creating the official tote bag for Maine Shop Hop. Kala is loving the features like the Jog-Dial (like a click-wheel on a iPod) that scrolls through all 250 stitches in mere seconds!! Our eyes aren't what they used to be, and the Horizon is lit better than any machine we've seen yet. Five lights offer virtually shadow-free stitching. And the free arm is almost a foot long! The most adorable stitches - you won't even believe how cute they are. You won't want to miss the unveiling of this incredible, intuitive machine.

First Batch of Pillowcases Delivered

Here's the first batch of pillowcases - 108 total!

All of us at The Fabric Garden are proud to participate in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge. This national effort was launched in November, with the goal of having one million pillowcases sewn and donated locally to agencies and charities, such as Child Services, Hospice, Oncology Units, Veteran's Homes, etc. Such small, beautiful acts of kindness can make a world of difference in someone's life, and help improve communities all around the country by spreading kindness.

Our wonderful, lovely customers have been sewing their hearts out, literally. So far, 108 pillowcases have been donated!! All shapes and sizes, all themes, all colors. Really, something for everyone, and such gorgeous talent. What an exceptional bunch of people you all are. Give yourself a big pat on the back.

Today we distributed the first batch: 108 pillowcases!

First stop was the Department of Health and Human Services. They said they knew of LOTS of children and families who will LOVE to have nice pillowcases like these.

Next stop was Hospice of Somerset County. The angels on earth who volunteer and work there were just delighted. They remarked at how beautiful the pillowcases were, and what a lovely effort this is. They pass along their thanks to all who made them, and said they will be truly appreciated. It is touching to know that someone who is suffering will be lightened, even if but for a moment.

And finally we brought a box to the local hospital's Oncology department. They were very happy to receive them and also said this would bring cheer to people who truly need it.

THANK YOU for all who made pillowcases so far! But we're not done yet.. This effort runs to November, 2010.

The next places we will be delivering to will include our local Veteran's Home & Hospital. Let's thank those who served our country by giving them a nice homemade pillowcase.

And again, to those who have made pillowcases THANK YOU for your efforts. Let's keep this ball rolling, we're bringing smiles to those who need them.

Buck A Block Returns

Buck a Block is Back!

Each month for just a buck, you will receive the pattern and fabric to make one quilt block. Then the next month, just bring in your completed block and get your next block for one dollar. In the end, you will have twelve completed quilt blocks.

Houston Quilt Market After-Party!

This Tuesday November 17 is our AFTER-MARKET party! Kala and Celia went to Houston International Quilt Market in October and found so much great stuff, they can't wait to share it with everyone!

Door prizes and giveaways include lots of Houston Quilt Market souvenirs. Refreshments and snacks will be served.

One Million Pillowcase Challenge kicks off November 15!

The Fabric Garden is proud to join forces with many of the nation's independent quilt shops and American Patchwork & Quilting to participate in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge!

Beginning November 15, and throughout the coming year, we challenge and encourage you to make as many pillowcases as you can for those who would be comforted by a nice, home-sewn pillowcase.

We are an official drop-off spot, and will be dividing the pillowcases received amongst local organizations and agencies. A homemade pillowcase can provide comfort for a cancer patient, hope for a foster child, encouragement for a battered woman, beauty for a nursing home resident, a bit of thanks for those in our VA hospitals, and so on...

We'll be hosting fun pillowcase events throughout the year, starting with a FREE Pillowcase Demo in December (date to be announced), and a Pizza Pillowcase Party in early 2010!

Let's get together with the rest of the country to make a million pillowcases, and make a difference in a million people's lives. Thank you!!
